At its monthly meeting Monday, the Flagg-Rochelle Community Park District Board of Commissioners unanimously approved the $34,174 purchase of a forestry mower from Bobcat of Janesville. 

At its monthly meeting Monday, the Rochelle Township High School District Board of Education held a public hearing for and unanimously approved its 2024-2025 budget.

Over the weekend of Sept. 13-15, the Annual Creston Booster Days festival was held in Creston. Friday featured a steak fry in the park, a beer garden, Skinners’ Amusements and The Killer Bs on Stage.

Derek and Chad Horner, co-owners of Unger-Horner Funeral Home in Rochelle, recently closed on the purchase of Merritt Funeral Home in Mendota. The business will now be known as Horner-Merritt Funeral Home. 

At its monthly meeting Wednesday, the Hillcrest Village Board of Trustees approved the purchase of a new Ford F-350 dump truck for $98,190 from Hackbarth Truck and Equipment by a vote of 4-0 with Trustee Dan Potter abstaining.

At its monthly meeting Tuesday, the Rochelle Elementary School District heard an update by District Business Manager Kevin Dale on recent work done by the district's facility committee.

Over 60,000 people attended an event in Rochelle at the Global III intermodal facility on Sunday that featured The Union Pacific Railroad’s Big Boy No. 4014 train engine, City Director of Community Engagement Jenny Thompson said.

The Rochelle City Council, the Rochelle Township High School District Board of Education and the Rochelle Elementary School District Board of Education recently approved agreements for the continuation of school resource officer programs through July 1, 2027.

At the end of July, Rochelle Police Department Detective Sgt. John Kaltenbach retired after 21 years with RPD. Kaltenbach was recognized by the city council at its Aug. 12 meeting.

A body found and pulled from the Rock River outside of Oregon on Tuesday morning has been identified as a missing 23-year-old Rockford man, Ogle County Sheriff Brian VanVickle said. 

At its monthly meeting Tuesday, the Ogle County Board voted 18-4 with one member abstaining to approve a zoning map amendment that will see 524 acres of land owned by Constellation Energy Generation rezoned from agricultural to industrial. That land is around the Byron Nuclear Plant.
