A busy summer at the library

Posted

The Library has been a busy place this summer.  Fourth of July week is the halfway point of Summer Reading.  We always look forward to celebrating America’s Birthday at the Library.  Many families will celebrate together by having picnics, going to parades and watching fireworks.  The Library always participates in the parade and  the staff has so much fun seeing all of our patrons along the parade route.  One of things that is an important part of the day is the American flag. The Flag is an important symbol of our country.

“The flag of the United States, sometimes referred to as the American Flag, or lovingly as “Old Glory,” the “Stars and Stripes,” and the “Star Spangled Banner,” has stood as a symbol of freedom since 1777, and its design encompasses both our nation’s history and patriotic ideals.

It is, of course, widely known that the 50 stars represent the 50 states of the Union and the 13 alternating red and white stripes represent the 13 original colonies, however, the colors of the flag also hold important meaning.

The color red represents hardiness and valor, as well as courage and readiness to sacrifice. It is also sometimes said to represent the blood shed by those who have fought to protect our freedom and our country. The color blue signifies justice for all, as well as vigilance and perseverance. A reminder that we must remain watchful and strong. The color white stands for purity and innocence. Pure, because we are independent from other countries and hold true to our ideals.” (https://www.gettysburgflag.com/american-flag-symbolism

Don’t forget about the Library after the holiday.  We are still here and have Summer Reading programs planned for you through the middle of August.   The Library offers books about the American Flag, the Fourth of July, the Declaration of Independence and many other subjects.  Come in and check out some books, use our digital platforms, check out a movie or come to one of our cool Library programs.  We are offering programs for all ages including Story Time, 4C Play and Learn, Maker Mondays, Books With Friends, Gamer Thursdays and so much more.  The Burpee Museum will be coming on July 18th at 1 pm with their reptiles. We are showing Ice Age Dawn of the Dinosaurs at 8:30pm on Friday, July 12th on our outdoor movie screen.  We are having so much fun this summer and learning a significant amount about renewing, reading and recycling.

Come to the Library and check-out what we have to offer. We hope you are having a fabulous summer and make the Library part of your summer plans. See you soon.
