Pavement, pool painting work to move forward

ROCHELLE — At its monthly meeting Monday, the Flagg-Rochelle Community Board of Commissioners heard an update on Spring Lake Pool from Executive Director Jackee Ohlinger as the season recently came to a close.

Ohlinger thanked the board for its commitment to upkeep of Spring Lake and said it saw its highest attendance numbers in four years during its 2024 season. The pool averaged 125 visitors per day over the summer.

"The value to the community as a resource has a tremendous impact and provides a safe and enjoyable environment for our families and children from all walks of life to relax and stay active," Ohlinger said. "Those numbers speak volumes on how vital a community pool is for Rochelle and how valuable and safety-conscious our staff are. Spring Lake is more than just a recreational facility. It's another hub in the community for engagement and a place where memories are made, friendships are forged, and a sense of community is strengthened."

The board resolved to move forward with full service crack sealing and painting of the baby pool at Spring Lake during the meeting. Minor crack sealing and touch up painting will be done on the main pool as well this fall, and full service crack sealing and painting will be done in that pool in the next 1-2 years when more need is seen. That work hasn’t been done since 2021 when the facility saw a major renovation.

Paving

The board unanimously approved bids from Wyatt Paving Maintenance and Illini Asphalt for its 2024 pavement projects.

Wyatt Paving Maintenance will cover the work at Skare Park, Sweeney Park, VFW Park and the bike path extension. Wyatt Paving Maintenance will donate work and materials for Sweeney Park's basketball court.

Illini Asphalt will cover the work at Flannigan Park and Helms Stadium. Illini Asphalt will donate the work and materials for Helms Stadium.

"They're both local businesses and wanted to give back to the community," Ohlinger said. "I thought that was great."
