RMS’s Prestegaard named IPA Teacher Leadership Award recipient for region

ROCHELLE — Rochelle Community Consolidated District #231 recently announced that Rochelle Middle School Science Teacher Ms. Kathy Prestegaard has been recognized as the recipient of the Illinois Principal Association (IPA)’s “Teacher Leadership Award” for the state's Northwest Region.

Ms. Prestegaard will represent Rochelle’s region as the IPA chooses a state Elementary Teacher Leader of the Year from all of the regional winners.

On the recognition, Mrs. Prestegaard said, “I am honored to receive the Principal's Leadership Award. I am grateful to have the privilege of being a teacher in the Rochelle Elementary School District over the past 18 years. I really enjoy working with my fellow staff and students of our wonderful school district.”

Throughout her almost two decades at Rochelle, Ms. Prestegaard has left a lasting impression on numerous students and staff members," RMS Principal Jordan Young said. "Kathy demonstrates exceptional dedication, thoughtfulness, and enthusiasm in her interactions with children and families. She consistently extends a helping hand and prioritizes the well-being of all students."

Ms. Prestegaard has been a teacher at Rochelle Community Consolidated District #231 for the past 18 years at RMS. Ms. Prestegaard has taught various levels and is a leader in the science department. Ms. Prestegaard is always willing to help with sporting events and leads the mentoring program for new teachers in addition to her classroom teaching duties.
