Summer has started at the library!

Summer has started at the library!  Programming begins the first week of June and extends through mid-August.  We are looking forward to a wonderful summer. Remember…Read, Renew, Repeat!  Our Summer schedule is available at the library or on our website at rochellepubliclibrary.org.  We also have up to date posts on our Facebook page to keep our patrons informed.  If you have questions about Summer Reading do not hesitate to call us at 815-562-3431 or email us at rochellereaders@gmail.com. We are so excited to see all of our library friends this summer.  We have programming for all ages.

June is Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) month. We try to help as many people as we can at the Public Library.  We have learned that many of our community members are affected by this disorder. “According to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, more than eight million people in the United States currently have PTSD. Posttraumatic stress disorder can develop after an individual goes through or sees a life-threatening event. PTSD, while often thought of as affecting active military and Veterans, is not limited to warfighters or first responders. Civilian survivors of sexual assault, serious accidents, natural disasters, or other traumatic events can also experience PTSD.” ( https://www.jcs.mil/JKO/Latest-News/JKO-Customer-Spotlights/Article/3113848/june-is-ptsd-awareness-month/

In our non-fiction section we have books covering a variety of subjects.  Patrons come in looking for information regarding their personal disorders or the ailments of a friend or family member.  They are looking for answers and something to help.  Libraries can be a place to find information.  We also have digital platforms to help the patron who wants a non-traditional book to find their facts.  Computers and Wi-Fi are available for internet searching. We also offer wireless printing.  Knowledge is the key to helping people and getting them the correct professional help that they need.   Neil Gaiman states, “A library is a place that is a repository of information and gives every citizen equal access to it. That includes health information. And mental health information. It's a community space. It's a place of safety, a haven from the world.” (https://www.brainyquote.com/quotes/neil_gaiman_573956?src=t_information

Your library is a place to find the correct information that you are looking for.  Remember, we are here to help you.  Books can allow you to use your imagination but they also allow you to find factual information that you can use and study.  If we do not have what you need, we can order materials for you from another Library or through our Inter-library Loan Service. Check your facts, publication dates and websites to make sure what you are reading is up to date information.

We look forward to seeing all of you at the library this summer.  Be sure to bring your library card. Come in and see us.  We have over 60,000 volumes waiting for you.  See you soon!
