The Rochelle Hub varsity baseball team concluded its Interstate 8 Conference series against Sycamore, with the purple and white suffering an 8-1 loss in a rain-shortened contest and conceding the series sweep against the Spartans. Junior Breydan Andrews went 1-for-2 with a single and a run scored for the Hubs (3-7, 0-3 Interstate 8) in the loss.
Sycamore took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning, where Davis Collie reached on a pair of fielding errors to drive two runners home. The Spartans added two more runs in the top of the second inning, scoring after Teague Hallahan smacked an RBI double and scored on an error.
Hallahan followed with a two-run double in the top of the third inning, bringing home Collie and Tyler Townsend to put the Spartans ahead 6-1. Andrews singled and scored on a passed ball for the Hubs in the bottom of the second inning. Sycamore surged ahead 8-1 in the top of the fourth inning, where Will Klumpp belted a two-run triple into right field to score Kyle Hartmann and Kyle Prebil. Rochelle was held to three hits and left six runners on base in the loss.
