Rochelle wins all five games over two-day span

WOODSTOCK — The Rochelle 561 Sluggers 11U baseball team went 5-0 over five games to take home the championship during the 2024 Spring Fling in Woodstock from May 18-19.

Rochelle won each of its two games on Saturday, May 18. The 561 Sluggers started the event with a 15-1 win against the 11U Ironmen. Bennett Law led the offense with three RBIs, while Roberto Bugarin went 2-for-2 with two RBIs and Brayson Bouland went 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Rafael Betancourt added two RBIs for the 561 Sluggers, who finished with nine hits in the win.

Rochelle defeated the BGRA Bearcats White 11U team 13-2 to close out Saturday’s action. Roberto Bugarin went 2-for-2 with a team-high three RBIs, while Bennett Law and Cody Cox each added two RBIs in the win. Brayson Bouland went 2-for-3 with three runs and two RBIs.

Rochelle won all three of its games on Sunday, May 19 to clinch the tournament crown. The 561 Sluggers began the day with a 17-2 thumping of the DeKalb Crush 11U team. Brecken Bruns scored three runs, while Bennett Law went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBIs. Bentley Etes, Landon Johnson, Roberto Bugarin, Cody Cox and Cooper Harris each scored twice.

The 561 Sluggers took down the Genoa City Shockers 8-6 before sealing the championship with an 18-3 win over the JR Badgers. Bennett Law went 1-for-3 with two RBIs against the Genoa City Shockers while Brecken Bruns, Cody Cox and Rafael Betancourt each chipped in RBIs. Brecken Bruns went 2-for-2 with three runs and four RBIs to spearhead the charge in the championship game, while Bennett Law and Rafael Betancourt added two RBIs in the victory.
