Rochelle goes 3-1 over four games on May 19

MT. MORRIS — The Rochelle Rampage 8U baseball team went 3-1 over four games to finish in second place out of four teams at the 2024 School’s Out Slugfest on Sunday, May 19.

Rochelle teed off the tournament with a 10-8 win over the Sycamore Gladiators 8U team. Grey Engelbarts went 3-for-3 with two RBIs, while Chase Countryman also went 3-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Wells Millard went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and Conrad Harper went 2-for-3 with one RBI. Bryce Adolph and Brekkon VanKirk each went 2-for-3 with two runs scored.

Rochelle continued tournament action with a 17-16 victory against the Oregon J-Hawks. The Rampage compiled 33 hits in the win, with five players including Bryce Adolph, Brekkon VanKirk, Wells Millard, Chase Countryman and Jed Harper finishing 4-for-4 in the win. Xander Gonzales went 3-for-3 with four RBIs, while Grey Engelbarts went 3-for-4 with three RBIs.

Rochelle dominated Sterling GW 16-1 to clinch its spot in the championship game. Bryce Adolph was a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs scored and two RBIs, while Chase Countryman went 2-for-2 with three RBIs. Brekkon VanKirk, Wells Millard, Conrad Harper and Spencer Kulwicki all went 2-for-2 with two RBIs to help lead the Rampage offense in the victory.

Rochelle rematched with the Sycamore Gladiators for the championship, falling 17-10 to finish in second place. Wells Millard went 4-for-4 with three runs scored and four RBIs to lead the offense, while Xander Gonzales and Conrad Harper each went 4-for-4 with two RBIs. Grey Engelbarts went 4-for-4 with one RBI and three players including Jed Harper, Cyrus Sullivan and Spencer Kulwicki went 3-for-3. Rochelle finished the game with a tournament-best 34 hits.
