Rockets hand Rochelle 6-1 defeat on Thursday evening

BURLINGTON — Senior forward Alberto Casillas scored the first goal of the season for the Rochelle Hub varsity soccer team on Thursday, when the purple and white kicked off their 2024 campaign with a nonconference road matchup against the Burlington Central Rockets.

Casillas cashed in an unassisted goal during the 80th and final minute, allowing the Hubs to avoid the shutout as Burlington Central defeated Rochelle 6-1. The Rockets owned a 17-9 advantage over the Hubs (0-1, 0-0 Interstate 8) in shots and a 14-4 advantage in shots on goal. Junior Antonio Hueramo recorded seven saves for the Hubs, who will travel to Stillman Valley for the annual Colin Smith Invitational, which begins on Friday before concluding on Saturday.

Burlington Central held a 2-0 lead at halftime, scoring goals in the 16th and 32nd minutes. The Rockets extended their advantage with goals in the 52nd and 58th minutes before effectively sealing their victory over the Hubs behind two more scores in the 69th and 74th minutes.
