ROCHELLE — The Rochelle Hub varsity tennis team served up its first Interstate 8 Conference match of the season on Tuesday evening, falling 5-0 against the Morris Redskins despite taking two matches to three sets.
Senior Jimmy Chavez took one game in a 0-6, 1-6 loss to Connor Barth at No. 1 singles, while sophomore Philip Winters claimed three games in a 3-6, 0-6 loss to Tristan Olvera at No. 2 singles. Rochelle (2-1, 0-1 Interstate 8) will continue Interstate 8 play with road matches against Sycamore and Kaneland on Wednesday and Thursday.
Senior Parker Lenkaitis and sophomore Mark Green held the early lead in their No. 1 doubles match against Connor Ahearn and Shane Phillips, winning the first set before dropping the second and third sets in a 6-1, 4-6, 4-6 loss. Senior Austin Raleigh and freshman Connor Hunley also went three sets in their No. 3 doubles match against Braden Murphy and Johnathan Zarbock, taking the opening set but conceding the next two sets in a 6-3, 2-6, 2-6 loss.
Senior Alex McBride and sophomore Caleb Mortensen managed two games in their 2-6, 0-6 loss against Chase McConnel and Hunter Lindenborn at the No. 2 doubles court.
