ROCHELLE — The Rochelle Hub varsity tennis team returned to its home court for a nonconference match against Freeport on Monday evening, falling to the Pretzels 5-0. Rochelle (3-3, 1-2 Interstate 8) will resume conference play with a road match at Ottawa on Tuesday.
Freeport claimed both singles matches on Monday evening. Senior Jimmy Chavez took three games in a 2-6, 1-6 loss against Owen Helm at No. 1 singles, while sophomore Philip Winters claimed two games in a 1-6, 1-6 loss against Alex Cuatlatl at No. 2 singles. Senior Parker Lenkatis and sophomore Mark Green were the closest Hubs to victory on Monday, with the duo taking six total games in a 3-6, 3-6 loss to JC Herra and Caden DeJong at No. 1 doubles.
Senior Austin Raleigh and Eli Luxton secured three games in a 2-6, 1-6 loss against Diego Robles Sanchez and Carlo Delavin at No. 2 doubles, while senior Alex McBride and sophomore Caleb Mortensen earned five games in a 1-6, 4-6 loss to Charlie Wiedmeyer and Collin Helm at No. 3 doubles.
