ROCHELLE — Junior forward Jeannette Valle scored a first-half goal to help the Rochelle Lady Hub varsity soccer team keep pace during Wednesday’s Interstate 8 match against Ottawa.
Valle’s goal came during the 34th minute and cut the team’s deficit to one goal after the Pirates took a 2-0 lead with goals in the 27th and 29th minutes. While Rochelle remained within striking distance at halftime, Ottawa controlled the entire second half, adding four more goals to its total and shutting down the Rochelle offense to hand the Lady Hubs a 6-1 defeat. The Pirates outshot Rochelle (0-10, 0-6 Interstate 8) 15-11 in total and 12-6 in shots on goal for the match.
Ottawa pulled away after scoring goals in the 55th and 57th minutes of the match. Leading 4-1, the Pirates sealed their victory with two more goals in the 71st and 75th minutes. Senior Danica Ward finished with nine saves for the Lady Hubs, while junior Makayla Lara led the Rochelle offense with eight total shots including four shots on goal. The Lady Hubs will head to Byron High School for a nonconference soccer tournament on Saturday afternoon.
