BELVIDERE — The Rochelle Lady Hub varsity tennis team claimed two victories on Thursday evening, when the purple and white battled against Belvidere in nonconference action.

Seniors Kitty Williams and Erin Murphy dominated their No. 1 doubles match, conceding just one game in a 6-0, 6-1 win over Emily Casey and Piper Niemic. Seniors Lauren Dyer and Abby Metzger followed with a strong outing at the No. 2 doubles court, where they united for a 6-3, 6-2 victory against Kaylee Mootrey and Addy Formal to bring Rochelle closer to its first win.

But the Bucs swept both singles matches and claimed a key victory at the No. 3 doubles court to outlast the Lady Hubs 3-2. Seniors Kendyl Darby and Natalie Wagner hung tough against Amrit Kavr and KJ Thompson in the No. 3 doubles matchup, falling just short in a 6-4, 6-3 loss.

Senior Sydney Carmichael nearly earned her first win of the season at No. 1 singles, taking a total of eight games in a 4-6, 4-6 loss against Abby King. Junior Merit Namaste-Rose earned four games in her 2-6, 2-6 loss against Paige Niemic at the No. 2 singles court. Rochelle (0-2, 0-0 Interstate 8) will return to action with a home match against Sycamore on Tuesday.
