Junior Tackle: Rochelle teams score two wins at Byron

Eighth-graders remain undefeated, sixth-graders edge Tigers 6-0

BYRON — The Rochelle Junior Tackle football teams faced off against the Byron Junior Tigers on the road Saturday afternoon. The eighth-graders scored a 30-0 win to remain undefeated, while the sixth-graders outlasted Byron for a 6-0 victory. Both the seventh-graders and the fifth-graders conceded losses against the Junior Tigers.

8th Grade

Vinny Tornabene dominated on the ground for the Junior Hubs, rushing for 200 yards and two touchdowns on 11 carries.  Braxton Bruns rushed for 30 yards on five carries while adding two catches for 41 yards and one touchdown. Riley Smith rushed for a touchdown and Joey Chadwick finished with 26 rushing yards on four carries in the win.

Braxton Bruns totaled 7.5 tackles and forced one fumble to lead the Rochelle defense against Byron.  Vinny Tornabene and Benjamin Morris each had three tackles, while Kyler Rowe added four tackles for the Junior Hub defense.  The eighth-graders improved to 4-0 on the season with the victory.

7th Grade

Elijah Underwood led the Junior Hubs against Byron, scoring a touchdown late in the game and recovering a fumble for a touchdown. Korbin Milos rushed for over 100 yards and a touchdown to spearhead the charge on offense.  The Junior Tigers outlasted Rochelle 34-28 to drop the Junior Hub seventh-graders to 1-3 on the season.

6th Grade

Grange Kissack scored the lone touchdown during Rochelle's defensive battle against Byron on Saturday. The Junior Hubs improved their record to 3-1 overall while handing the Junior Tiger sixth-graders their first defeat of the season.

5th Grade

Rochelle faced a 6-0 deficit at halftime, but the Junior Hubs scored late in the fourth quarter after a 40-yard run from Michael Vaughn led to a 1-yard touchdown run from Braxton Ellison. Byron scored on a 65-yard touchdown during the next play to win 14-6 over the Junior Hubs, who saw Griffin Rutledge snag an interception during the second quarter. Rochelle is now 1-3 overall.
