Rochelle Township High School hosted the 5th Annual Rochelle Summer Tennis Tournament from July 26-27. A total of 145 athletes from 55 cities assembled to compete in the annual event, which featured 12 divisions for athletes ranging from children through seniors.

ROCHELLE — Rochelle Township High School hosted the 5th Annual Rochelle Summer Tennis Tournament from July 26-27. A total of 145 athletes from 55 cities assembled to compete in the annual event, which featured 12 divisions for athletes ranging from children through seniors.

Dixon’s Joel Rhodes finished first in the High School Boys Singles Division, which featured 21 total entrants in this year’s tournament. Springfield’s Matthew Sommer took second, while Freeport’s John Carlo Delavin finished third and Freeport’s Caden DeJong landed in fourth.

Rockford’s Leah Hunter finished first in the High School Girls Singles Division, which featured nine total entrants in this year’s tournament. Freeport’s Angelina Sala took second, while Pontiac’s Brooke Burger finished third and Streator’s Maddie Wahl landed in fourth.

Freeport’s Cadan DeJong and John Carlo Delavin finished first in the High School Boys Doubles Division, which featured 11 total entrants in this year’s tournament. Rockford’s Landon Horn and Cale Putkus took second, while Hampshire’s Braydon Bowgren and Chris Roth finished third. Aurora’s Sam Pall and Sugar Grove’s Will Klish landed in fourth place over the weekend.

Odell’s Olivia Masching and Pontiac’s Brooke Burger finished first in the High School Girls Doubles Division, which saw nine entrants in this year’s tournament. Streator’s Maddie Wahl and Joyce Walkling took second, while Sycamore’s Taylor Zemanek and Peyton Wright finished third. Rochelle’s Erin Murphy and Kitty Williams landed in fourth place over the weekend.

Rockford’s Leah Hunter and Ryan Hunter finished first in the High School Mixed Doubles Division, which saw two entrants. Oregon’s Sarah and David Eckardt took second place. 

Utica’s Aaron Guenther finished first in the Men’s Singles Division, which saw 16 entrants in this year’s tournament. Janesville’s Tristan Plaut took second, while Ottawa’s Logan Goetsch finished third and Rochelle’s John Michael Loggins landed in fourth place.

Oregon’s Kristy Eckardt finished first in the Women’s Singles Division, which saw eight entrants in this year’s tournament. Belvidere’s Katelyn de Guzman took second, while Rockford’s Debbie Schafer finished third and Gilberts netter May Kimura landed in fourth place.

Dixon’s Jonathan Rhodes and Joel Rhodes finished first in the Men’s Doubles Division, which saw 17 entrants in this year’s tournament. Ottawa’s Vadim Cheli and Logan Goetsch took second, while Utica’s Aaron Guenther and Peru’s Matthew Guenther finished third. Davenport’s Chris Voelker and Rockford’s Matt Trowbridge landed in fourth place over the weekend.

Oregon’s Kristy Eckardt and Rochelle’s Lizzie Cartwright finished first in the Women’s Doubles Division, which saw 11 entrants in this year’s tournament. Rockford’s Debbie Schafer and Susan Buzzard took second, while Dixon’s Jamie Brigl and Grace Ferguson finished third. Sycamore’s Patty Poorten and St. Charles netter Antoinette Shannon landed in fourth place.

Dixon’s Grace Ferguson and Joel Rhodes finished first in the Mixed Doubles Division, which saw 13 entrants in this year’s tournament. Oregon’s Kristy and Andy Eckardt took second, while Rochelle’s John Michael Loggins and Dixon’s Jamie Brigl finished third. Davenport’s Chris Voelker and Bettendorf’s Yen Dao landed in fourth place over the weekend.

Sycamore’s Greg Locascio and Jon Locascio finished first in the Parent & Kid Doubles Division, which saw eight entrants in this year’s tournament. Ottawa’s John and Vadim Cheli took second, while Rochelle’s Merilyn May and Jay Taft finished third. Rockford’s Violet Sjostrom and Grant Sjostrom also finished third in the Parent & Kids Doubles Division over the weekend.

Sycamore’s Patty Poorten and St. Charles netter Antoinette Shannon finished first in the Senior Doubles Division, which saw three entrants in this year’s tournament. Rochelle’s Roy Threlkeld and John Prabhakar took second, while Ashton’s Jim and Jill Kohlert finished third.
