Johnson and Tornabene earn multiple state medals

RIVER FOREST — The St. Paul Lutheran School track and field team earned the sixth-place trophy during the 2024 Lutheran State Championships at Concordia University Chicago over the weekend. Several Crusader student-athletes landed on the podium during the two-day event.

St. Paul’s 3200-meter relay team (Reed Rowley, Esam Farraj, Joey Chadwick and Tyler Johnson) medaled in fourth with a time of 10:17.49. Vinny Tornabene medaled in fifth place in the shot put with a heave of 10.48 meters and Tyler Johnson medaled in seventh place in the long jump with a distance of 4.92 meters to lead the Crusaders in the field events Saturday.

Vinny Tornabene medaled in two events on Sunday, finishing third in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.64 seconds and sixth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.89 seconds. Tyler Johnson also earned two medals on Sunday, taking third in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:17.66 and third in the 1600-meter run with a time of 5:04.08.
